A loss tonight for anyone still within striking distance means mathematical elimination, making every single pinfall, submission, and time limit near-miss a piece of high-wire drama.
What is the World Tag League?
For anyone new to New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s annual tag team showcase, the format is simple, brutal, and designed for tension:
- Teams are split into two blocks (A and B).
- Teams face every other team within their block once.
- A win earns 2 points; a draw (time limit) earns 1 point; a loss earns 0 points.
- The team that finishes with the most points in Block A faces the team that finishes with the most points in Block B in the final.
- The winner of the tournament earns a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at the biggest show of the year: Wrestle Kingdom.
📊 Updated Block B Standings (Decisive Night)
Tonight, the focus is squarely on Block B, where a brutal three-way tie is threatening to shatter the traditional rankings. Only one team can escape to the Finals!
| Team | Faction | Points (W-L) | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb | United Empire | 12 (6-2) | Must Win |
| House of Torture (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi) | House of Torture | 12 (6-2) | Must Win |
| Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) | CHAOS | 12 (6-2) | Must Win |
| Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste | TMDK | 10 (5-3) | Slim Chance |
| Others | 8 or less | Mathematically Eliminated |
With three teams locked at 12 points and facing off against each other or against dangerous spoilers, the possibilities for tiebreakers and collapses are endless!
The Critical Matches That Define the Finals
Tag 15 is structured to deliver maximum impact. These are the matches with the most serious implications:
1. United Empire vs. House of Torture (The Block Clincher)
Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb (12 pts) vs. EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi (12 pts)
This is the ultimate collision of styles: the powerhouse dominance and seamless teamwork of United Empire against the foul, chaotic strategy of House of Torture. If the match is allowed to be wrestled fairly, Cobb and O-Khan have the advantage. However, EVIL specializes in using the darkness and distraction to secure wins. This match isn’t just for two points; it’s likely a direct elimination match. The winner here has the inside track to Block B victory.
2. Bishamon’s Last Stand
Bishamon (12 pts) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japón (BUSHI & Shingo Takagi)
The two-time former winners of the tournament, Goto and YOSHI-HASHI, are the sentimental favorites. Their path is complicated, as they face Shingo and BUSHI, a team already eliminated but desperate to play spoiler. Bishamon needs two points and requires the United Empire vs. HoT match to end in a non-decisive way (a draw or a scenario where their victory puts them ahead on head-to-head tiebreakers). If they lose, the dream is instantly over. Can the heart and spirit of Bishamon overcome LIJ’s unpredictable fire?
3. The Spoiler Role
TMDK (10 pts) vs. Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa)
While TMDK is on a slim chance to make the Finals, they are a powerful team that can absolutely upset the balance. Facing the formidable G.o.D., TMDK needs a win here to get to 12 points and force a chaotic, almost impossible scenario where they end up at the top of the tiebreaker pile. Even if they can’t make the Finals, their performance will heavily influence who does.
